Langshott Ladybirds Nursery
Safety in the Sun
Safety in the Sun
At Ladybirds we aim to ensure the children’s safety in the sun and to develop an awareness of ways we can protect ourselves from the harmful effects of the sun
Our nursery is relatively shaded for most of the day, we are always able to find shade to play in.
………………………..
- We will provide activities, prior to the Summer Term, that will raise the children’s awareness of the need to protect ourselves when in the sun or outside on a hot day.
- During the Summer Term we will endeavour to create a greater area of shade in our playground to enable children to play outside safely.
- Children will be encouraged to wear sun hats or caps when playing outside in the summer months.
- Children will be encouraged to wear clothing that covers their shoulders and necks in order to protect them from the sun when playing outside.
- Staff will set a good example when outside by trying to stay in the shade, wearing a hat and wearing appropriate clothing.
- Parent/Carers will be sent information about this policy.Parent/Carers will be asked to provide a sun hat or cap and suitable clothing for their child to wear when outside. (Ladybirds will hold a small stock of hats for children to borrow if they forget their own.
- Sunscreen should be applied to children at home, prior to attending a nursery session and then reapplied after lunch.
- Parents must provide a named sunscreen of factor 30 spf or above for staff to reapply after lunch.
- Staff will encourage children to apply their own sunscreen but will be mindful that the sunscreen is correctly applied.
- Sunscreen will be stored in a lidded box on the fridge/freezer in the main room.
